Man To Man: The Best Gift

It’s just days ahead of the biggest gift giving day of the year. This is a time when I get a bit frustrated because I am not good at choosing gifts for people. Over the years, I have bought gifts I believed would wow the socks off the one who received them only to see the disappointment on their face. Apparently, a tank vacuum cleaner didn’t bring the same thrill to her as I thought it would. Even though my wife does most of the gift buying these days, I still stress a bit over the reaction of those receiving them.

But there is one gift I can give that is never wrong. In fact, the appropriateness of this gift is not even determined by the reaction of the intended recipient. Also, this is a gift I don’t have to shop for or try to come up with the right size or color. To add to the certainty of the correctness of this gift, it’s not even optional, I am commanded to give this gift.

Men, this week as our attention and time (hopefully) is centered more on our family, be certain to do all you can to assure that they understand and receive the gift of Jesus! This is your primary role as a godly husband and father. If you are single, you still can give this gift to those you care about.

Jesus was very direct in commanding us to share the truth of his salvation with others. If this is his heart for us in our interaction with people in general, how much more should we follow this admonition in the lives of the people we love the most. God has placed these people in our lives for a purpose and we can fulfill that purpose by teaching them about Jesus.

When you study the New Testament of the Scriptures, you see many amazing events in the earthly life of Jesus. He healed people of disease. He freed them from the clutches of demonic influence. He taught us how to love God and love people. But all of this served one purpose; the sole purpose for which he came to earth. This objective was to sacrifice himself for our salvation. This salvation frees us to have a life that is full on this earth, but more importantly, allows us to live in the presence of God for all eternity.

As the paper is being torn from packages and the special treats are being eaten, remember the opportunity God has placed in your hands. Give your family the truth of Jesus and encourage them to seek him first.
